What is the process of Nikah?
The actual Muslim wedding is known as a Nikah. The Nikah is a simple and short ceremony which normally consists of reading from the Qur’an, and the exchange of vows in front of witnesses for both partners.
What is Walima?
Walima (Arabic: وليمة walīmah) is the marriage banquet after an Islamic wedding. The word Walima is derived from awlam, meaning to gather or assemble. It typically takes place after the wedding contract is signed during the Nikah (Arabic: نكاح) or marriage ceremony. The Walima (wedding feast) may last for two whole days. Food served at The Walima’s comprise of chicken, fish and rice which are ancient symbols of fertility and plenty. Candy-covered almonds are also offered and are considered aphrodisiacs! Our churros cart is proving very popular for Walimas.
What do you wear to a Muslim wedding?
Dress respectfully in the mosque and at the reception. As such, men and women will want to dress modestly for a Muslim wedding ceremony. Generally, long trousers or longer dresses and skirts are most appropriate. All guests should avoid showing bare arms and be prepared to remove your shoes before entering the sacred part of the Mosque.
