Sheryl Crow seemed to burst on the pop charts in 1994, when in actuality she had spent many years “behind the scenes” until her big break.

Sheryl Crow composed her first song at age 13 and went on to major in music at the University of Missouri in Columbia. In 1986, Crow embarked on a two-year tour with Michael Jackson as a backup singer. Around the year 1989, Sheryl Crow was signed to A&M Records.

Her debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club was released in 1993. In 1994, intensified by the success of the single “Leaving Las Vegas,” the album started to climb the charts. Her second album, Tuesday Night Music Club sold over 6 million copies and earned Sheryl Crow many awards.

Her single, “All I Wanna Do” won Record of the Year and Crow also won Best New Artist. In the fall of 1996, Sheryl Crow released her second self-titled album, and the hit single “If It Makes You Happy.” Sheryl received the award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for “If It Makes You Happy,” and Best Rock Album at the 1997 Grammy Awards.

At the Grammy Awards in the year 2000, Sheryl Crow won for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Crow’s 2006 album, Wildflower, was also nominated for three Grammy Awards. Sheryl Crow’s work has appeared on numerous motion picture soundtracks, including Boys on the Side, Hope Floats, The Faculty, Message in a Bottle, and Practical Magic.
