Book Jon
Indian Percussionist
Jon is a UK based Indian percussionist with over 20 years’ experience of world percussion who can at corporate events and private parties. Expect a unique and original mixture of bouncy world rhythms and high energy drumming with Jons music often exploring rhythmic ideas and techniques between different instruments and musical forms, both in his solo work and in collaborations.
Jons tabla tuition began in Cardiff with Harjinder Singh Matharu from Birmingham. Harjinder gave Jon a good solid foundation in tabla playing between 1994 – 1998. In 1998 & 1999, Jon returned to India and studied with Kailash Nishad in Benares, in North India, a city renowned for the study of North Indian music. His solo multi percussion performance is a synthesis of traditional Indian musicianship and contemporary live electronics. Drums from India, Africa and the Middle East sit alongside vocal percussion and cutting edge technology, bringing traditional world percussion into the 21st century.
All instruments are traditional acoustic instruments which are played, sampled and processed live on stage using a laptop based multi-track recording studio. The percussion shows range from highly energised rhythmical journeys to atmospheric percussion soundscapes. Indian Percussionist Jon, has performed with various artists and groups including multi instrumental duo Taaliqa, the duo Tandj, based on South Indian devotional music, as well as Indian classical music.
