Book Hogarth: Colony
Interactive Sound Installation
Colony by Hogarth is a visually arresting and aurally entrancing interactive sound installation that transforms the environment into an alien landscape through light and sound. These large, tactile, sonic sculptures allow the audience to experience the physicality of sound through listening, touching, and hugging.
Seven blue pods, each containing a speaker and subwoofer, play a spatial composition which shifts slowly over time through six distinct phases. By turns musical, mysterious and threatening, the composition aims to engage the audience both spatially and by direct contact with the vibrating skin of the spheres – listening with the body, as well as with the ears. The sound installation finishes with a blast of white noise, completely surrounding the visitor in a sea of sound and signifying the pods saying farewell – until the next performance…
The Colony sound installation has been created predominantly for outdoor spaces, although it works very well in a ‘Black Box’ environment too. It can cater audiences of up to 250 or more. As an accessible, immersive and visceral outdoor sound installation, Colony will appeal to new audiences as well as contemporary music enthusiasts, fitting in to town centres, festivals galleries and performance spaces.
The Colony sound installation requires a single socket for set up and uses the equivalent of approximately 10 square meters or more. A smaller 6-Colony version can also be set up. The 20 minute performance can be repeated a number of times during the event, and when outside, can operate in the dark as well as during the day. Colony can also run in ‘installation’ mode, a non-performance version that can run all day.

Here’s what Hogarth: Colony – Interactive Art Installation’s clients said:
The whole event was so well designed and organised from the moment we arrived until the end. It definitely surpassed our expectations.
Just wanted to say thank you for your support and help with this event. All your supplied acts were brilliant and exactly would I had in my head. Also, they were ultimate professionals and were loved by audiences all evening
My colleague Mark Sherwen asked me to provide feedback at your request on the actors we have used with the above clients in November/December 2016 and January 2017. All of the actors have been exemplary in their professional approach, and their willingness to ‘play’ the role depending on our observations as facilitators from the plenary sessions has added immense value to the scenarios. Each of them brings the characters to life in their own way and they are a genuine pleasure to work with. Craig Thornthwaite, Principal Consultant
