Our Artist Spotlight blogs are a weekly feature where we focus on one of our performers, giving you the chance to find out more about the people behind the performances, and offering an insight into the world of entertainment.
We were absolutely delighted when we were told that we had been chosen to go and perform our comedy in Abu Dhabi this November. Firstly because it was so damn cold in England and we had forgotten what the sun looked like, and secondly because we were honoured to discover exactly where we would be performing and why.
The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi was established as an independent, research-driven graduate focused on advanced energy and sustainable technologies committed to finding solutions to the challenges of clean energy and climate change through education and research. In other words it was a very cool place doing some really cool stuff!e-level university.
We had been selected to perform our unique comedy walkabout act called “Patient pending” which is the two of us in the characters of two mad, eccentric inventors who are convinced that they have come up with a variety of inventions that will revolutionise the world. The university were holding a big open day to invite potential new students to explore the campus with a view to studying there. With close collaboration from a smart thinking and adventurous Abu Dhabi based events company they decided it would be a fun idea to throw in some invention based comedy into the mix to add a light hearted and comical element to the day
And so amongst all of this wonderful technology and education students were both surprised and delighted to find us with our nerdy clothes and big suitcase full of crazy ideas. Crowds of interested students gathered round to find out what was going on. We like to try and customise our act to the job and so we had come up with a few ideas especially suited to the theme and nature of the university. Particular favourites were our absurd machine for turning off all the lights in your house, powdered water (just add water!), the self-cooling soup spoon, the t-shirt that solves back scratching, and slippers that sweep your floor to name but a few.
Having performed comedy in Abu Dhabi and other UAE Countries we were familiar with what would work and we have to say that fun was had by all, and all in a delicious 30 degrees of heat.
Now as if all that wasn’t enough, and really just to put the icing on the cake the hotel we were staying at was in the middle of a zoo! When we were told that we would be staying at the Emirates Zoo we thought it was a joke, but strangely it was true. We can honestly say that neither of us have ever stayed in a zoo and we greatly enjoyed the experience. After all it’s not every day that giraffes join you for breakfast!
We are now back in the cold of the UK with a fairly hectic schedule of work on the run up to Christmas but look forward to returning to the Emirate States for more comedic fun in the future.
