Matthew Crane, the “Young Maestro”, was once the UK’s youngest Classical Baritone. At 20, after nine years continual vocal training, he has already surpassed the careers of many of his operatic counterparts of the older generation. He has competed in many Classical Festivals and won many accolades for his stunning renditions of opera classics such as “Nessun Dorma”, “Toreador” and “La Donna e Mobile”, and has performed on the world’s grandest stages including The Royal Albert Hall, The NEC, The 02 Arena, and The Fairfield Halls alongside The London Mozart Players, to great acclaim.

Matthew’s extraordinary talent was discovered by his music teacher, who recommended Matthew to train and study Classical Music under the tuition of international soprano Christine Hubbard, who trained with the Welsh National Opera. Matthew has also received tuition from Tay Cheng-Jim, an experienced teacher/counter tenor who studied at The Guildhall School of Music and performed with the English National Opera.

Matthew’s journey began when he won the prestigious Star4Medway competition in 2005 at just twelve years old, where he won the chance to perform at the first ever Kent Music Festival and to sing alongside Katherine Jenkins. Matthew’s many achievements include being a champion of the BBC Talent Show, “Let Me Entertain You”, hosted by Brian Conley and Christine Bleakley, working as a support artist for Katherine Jenkins, and as a regular face on terrestrial television. Matthew has gained much local and national press interest on his journey so far and also many glowing celebrity reviews including a Daily Express article written by journalist Vanessa Feltz, and a letter of support and recommendation from Jools Holland.

Matthew has also won many Classical Festivals, with distinctions for outstanding performances, winning over 48 competitions, trophies and medals so far. He has also won several major titles such as UK Unsigned, one of the biggest national talent shows in the UK held at the Hackney Empire Theatre, London. Matthew also had success with a hip-hop opera track titled “Memories” on Sky TV’s Channel U, which reached no 3 in the Urban Music Charts. He has also collaborated on other hip-hop/classical tracks with well-known urban artists.

Matthew works tirelessly for charities and has contributed to help raise over £1,000,000 so far. He is a Patron for the Step & Learn Charity, a local Charity which offers help and care to children with cerebral palsy and their families. Matthew is also a Patron of the SCF (The Survivors Coalition Foundation), a support organisation set up to support the victims and families and brave survivors from any act of terrorism. Matthew achieved 4 x A* Distinctions in Music at GCSE level, and a National Diploma in Music Practice.

Matthew has performed at the 02 to a crowd of 20,000 in the ‘Voice in a Million’ Concert in London, supported by a choir of 5,000 children, for The British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF). Matthew also completed a UK Tour with “The Soldiers” in 2010 (The Coming Home Tour), receiving many standing ovations at the 10 venues he performed at. Matthew has also performed to the Royal Family of Sheik Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum in Dubai, at a Prestigious Charity fundraising event.

Matthew is currently involved in many projects and has his own recording studio at home and is concentrating on his ambitions of becoming a singer-songwriter. Matthew recently won The Elite Talent Competition at The Circus Tavern, singing “Nessun Dorma”, plus his own composition of a ‘Hip-Hopera’ song, Amore Ti Amo, collaborating with rapper Ikue, which was very well received. This type of music was referred to by the celebrity judges at the event as “fresh and exciting, fusing opera and rap together is the next generation”.
