When hiring magicians as entertainment for your corporate event, it is helpful to know that these performers often specialize in a certain form of magic. Therefore, if you are looking for a specific type of show to be put on at your event, you should know about these different forms of magic and be able to ask the planner for the type of show you desire.
There are seven major categories of magic that a magician may specialize in:
- Production
- Vanishing
- Transformation
- Restoration
- Teleportation
- Levitation
- Penetration
A magician that specializes in production will perform tricks such as pulling a rabbit from a hat or appearing on stage from a puff of smoke. All tricks that involve creating something from nothing fall under this category. A magician that specializes in vanishing, on the other hand, will make objects disappear. Often, these two go hand in hand.
A magician that specializes in transformation will cause objects to change. Tricks such as turning a blue handkerchief into a red handkerchief would fall within this category. With restoration, the magician may tear or cut an object and then suddenly make it whole again. This can include the well-know trick of sawing a woman in half.
With teleportation, the magician moves an object from one place to another. Tricks such as moving a coin from one place to another belong in this category. Levitation tricks involve causing a person to float into the air or levitating dollar bills or other objects.
With penetration tricks, the magician causes solid objects to pas through one another. A well-known trick in this category involves linking together two solid rings.
Magicians may specialize in one area or do a combination of many types of tricks. When looking for the right entertainment for your event, consider the audience and choose what they would most likely prefer to see.
