Book The Hang-Man

Hang Musician & Club Percussionist

The Hang-Man is one of the best club percussionists in Europe. He uses the very unique Hang instrument, which is one of the rarest instruments in the world. The name Hang comes from the Bernese German word for hand and was created in 2000 by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer in Bern, Switzerland. Rohner and Schärer consider the instrument not to be a derivation of a drum.

The Hang instrument has a very unique sound and is typically played resting on the player’s lap and instead of using mallets it is played by the musicians hands and fingers. Utilising some of the same basic physical principles of a steelpan instrument, the Hang comprises two hollow half-shells of steel sheet:

– The top (“Ding”) side has a center ‘note’ hammered into it and seven or eight ‘tone fields’ hammered around the center. The Ding can sound like a harp, bells, or harmonically tuned steelpans.
– The bottom (“Gu”) is a plain surface that has a rolled hole in the center with a tuned note that can be created when the rim is struck. The Gu can sound similar to a South Indian ghatam or an Nigerian udu.

The Hang-Man has performed to house music at many prestigious events and he has appeared on television shows. Club Percussionist The Hang-Man has also played at many clubs all over Europe.

Standard Length of Performance:
The Hang-Man can perform sets from 30 to 90 minutes.
