The World of Balloon Modelers or Twisters

Balloon modelers - also known as Twisters - can twist balloons into almost any shape, be it animals, vehicles, cartoon characters, etc. You will often see Twisters dressed as clowns or working as restaurant entertainers or offering their services at children's parties.

Modeling Balloons

The secret here is that Twisters don't use regular balloons, instead, they use special types of twister balloons that are specifically made to be modeled into different shapes. Twisters use modeling balloons in diverse shapes, sizes, and colors. The sizes of such balloons are numbered and the most common number is 260.

Balloon Modeling Techniques

Balloon modelers specialize in using different techniques for modeling balloons. They use either single or multiple balloons. Single balloon modelers usually will not work as multiple balloon modelers because each style has its own set of pros and cons and few Twisters can master both styles. Most balloon modelers also use other methods called "stuffing" and "weaving." In fact, balloon modeling has become a highly intricate skill and it requires years of practice and knowledge.

Inflating Modeling Balloons

Earlier, Twisters inflated the balloons with their own lungs. However, now they use different types of pumps which can be battery generated, mechanical, or electrical. Air pumps and compressors are also used nowadays. Earlier, balloon modelers used only their mouths, however, this practice is now discouraged. This is because Twisters cannot possibly be expected to inflate hundreds of different types of balloons daily. It also sets a bad precedent for children to see balloons being put into mouths since it might pose a chocking hazard for smaller children. Putting a balloon in a mouth may also spread germs, so keeping convenience, safety, and hygiene in mind, most twisters use some sort of equipment to inflate their modeling balloons.

You will see that an experienced twister can inflate a 260 in one breath, whereas the lay person will require 2 or 3 breaths or even a pump to do so.
